Inkscapes of Easton and bright gold leafed matches,
Turkey bag aprons and warm woolen sashes,
Fingernail sculptures that live inside rings,
These are a few of the “Favorite Things”!
the newest collection of art, objects, and curiosities debuting at Mercantile Home in downtown Easton on November 12th and running through January 31st. “Favorite Things” will offer exciting new creations from Mercantile’s Easton studio, as well as an assortment of new work by some of the shop’s most popular artists. Rachel Case (NJ), Tim Hare (Easton), Josh Goldstein (NYC), Helen Musselwhite (UK), Matt Nixon (Easton), Shannon Rankin (ME), Derrick Sutton (OR), and Kevin Van Aelst (CT) will all be featured artists in Mercantile Home’s newest collection of work. The opening celebration will take place on Saturday, November 14th from 4-7pm.
“In conceiving the current collection, we imagined what would be included if we had been given the job of running Santa’s Workshop for the season,” explains Jones, the shop’s curator and co-owner. “Looking at our favorite things from the past year seemed the logical place to start.”
Seven of the eight artists featured in “Favorite Things” have been well received in previous Mercantile collections. Goldstein and Van Aelst’s work appeared in “The Little Apple”, Rankin’s popular map creations were featured in last winter’s “Spark!”, Case and Musselwhite’s delicate creations appeared in this Spring’s “How Does Your Garden Grow?”, Nixon’s work quickly sold out of the Summer collection “Illuminate”, and Derrick Sutton’s “Professor Thistlequick” series was a popular addition to “Number 7”. The one brand new artist in “Favorite Things” is Easton’s own, Tim Hare. Tim will be presenting new interpretations of his popular “Easton Inkscapes” series, a collection of charming architectural sketches of Easton locales.
“ We are excited to present this enchanted collection of work for the holiday season. The diversity and spectrum of work from our featured artists as well as the Easton Studio, create a whimsical, unique experience that will easily get you into the seasonal spirit,” explains Ron Morris, the Mercantile’s shop-keep and co-owner.
