ACE February Meeting: Elections, and meet the new director of Mayfair

Where: Williams Center for the Arts, Room 108,
Corner of High Street and Hamilton Street, Easton, PA

When Tues, Feb 14th at 7 PM

We are holding our annual elections for Officers and Board members at this meeting, so please attend to help determine the future of ACE in 2012.

Several of our current board members, who have served us wonderfully over the past years, will not be able to run this time, so it's a great opportunity to run for those who wish to serve. Board members meet monthly before the general ACE meetings and work together with the officers to bring the best opportunities to ACE members. If you would like to run, please let us know ASAP at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. – but we will also take nominations at the meeting on Feb 14th.
Remember, only current members of ACE can vote – if you have not renewed for 2012, you can renew at the meeting before the vote (we'll have applications). Fees are the same as last year – the basic Individual membership is $35, Family Membership is $50.

ALSO!

We will have a special guest, Arlene Daily, the new Executive Director of Mayfair. She's coming to introduce herself, and talk about the new direction of Mayfair: bringing it back to being a great ARTS festival. It's a real opportunity to help reboot a Valley venue for the benefit of all artists!

ACE Monthly meetings are a great place to learn about what's happening in ACE and meet other ACE members. The basic agenda of every member meeting is:
* Introductions
* Officer's Report - learn about our current finances
* Upcoming Activities - reports by committee members on upcoming ACE events
* President's Address
* Member's Address - any member can announce their upcoming exhibits or anything else of interest to the community
* Refreshments - Coffee and goodies!
* Featured Speaker Presentation

We have openings for future speakers for ACE events. The goal of our speaker series is to share and educate ACE members and guests about artists, techniques, opportunities, and topics related to the arts.

As part of its public art initiative and in its ongoing effort to beautify the downtown, Easton Main Street Initiative is calling for an artist to design insert panels to be installed on the Lafayette Hotel, northeast corner of 4th and Northampton Streets. Artists are asked to submit drawings for five jazz-themed silhouettes (see dimensions below). Panels should be black silhouettes on a single color background, and will be inserted in place of the street-level panels currently on the 4th street side of the Lafayette Hotel.

Request for Proposal:
This call is open to amateur and professional artists of all backgrounds. Up to three proposals may be made by each artist/artist group. Each proposal shall include a series of drawings that are original and graphically strong, taking into account the design parameters and theme requirements. The City of Easton will provide the treated boards to be used as the base, but other materials to be used, fabrication/production concepts, and all associated costs shall be clearly addressed in the artist(s) submittal.

Dimensions of the panels are as follows:

Panel D: 7’9” by 18’10”

Claudia McGill: "Second Life" Solo Exhibit, Jan 4-Jan 29, 2012

Exhibit Dates: January 4 – 29

Opening reception  -  January 6, 2012, 5-7 PM

Hi everyone!

I know everyone is busy with holidays now, but January is right around the corner and maybe you’ll be looking for something to do when it arrives.  How about an art exhibit?

My collage and clay work will be on view in an exhibit sponsored by the Swarthmore Friends of the Arts  from January 4 to January 29. The location is the Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Avenue, Swarthmore. The opening reception will be held Friday, January 6, from 5 to 7 PM.

The title of the show is “Second Life” – which has a couple of meanings for me. The first is the fact that through my work, I give a second purpose to materials that undergo a transformation or might otherwise be thrown away.

The second is the fact that making art has led me into another life, one that I hadn’t anticipated, but that I thoroughly enjoy.

In the exhibit, I plan to show collage work, including some pieces made especially for the show, and a selection of clay tiles.

And, I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support of my “Second Life” this year and every year. I appreciate all the kind comments and all the wonderful people I have met through my artwork.

Directions and exhibit hours are available at www.swarthmorearts.org.

Thank you! Claudia McGill

On December 4th, during the ACE Arts Awards Gala, we will be holding a silent auction of small works by ACE Artists as well as artists from the greater Easton area.
The auction will be held starting from 5 PM to 6 PM in the upper levels of the Bank Street Annex, just before the dinner service. Proceeds from the auction will be split, with half going to the artist and the other half benefitting the ACE Arts Awards Gala.

Artists may include a suggested opening bid for their work. Pieces can be dropped off at Connexions Gallery, 213 Northampton Street before December 3rd. Contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information.

We'd like to get a good representation of ACE artists in the Auction, as the Arts Awards Gala is an excellent showcase for your talents.

Thanks!

Artist Looking for Models

I am looking for one or more young women to pose for my Dressing Room Painting series in my Easton, PA studio (across from the public library).  Someone with a wide variety of outfits with bright solid colors and simple geometric patterns would be good. The subject is the model changing into and out of these clothes. Hair that can be placed up is ideal. Standing poses, no longer than 30 minutes. Examples of work can be seen at Picasa: https://picasaweb.google.com/105133050163915236615/DressingRoomPaintings2007And2008  (email me and I will send link) and earlier examples at my website: www.kenkewley.com .  The paintings need to be completed by mid-October and will be shown in Zurich. The hours between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. would be best. Two to three hour sessions. Evenings/weekends are a possibility.  15 dollars an hour. Not looking for experienced models. Please pass this on to anyone you think might be interested.
